Stanley’s Journey Through UK Boston Terrier
Rescue

When a dog comes into rescue, many people only see the happy ending - the
adoption photo, the comfy bed, the smiling face. But behind every successful
rehome is a huge amount of work, time, love, coordination, and cost.
Stanley’s journey through the UK Boston Terrier Rescue shows exactly what
happens from the moment a dog is surrendered, through to finding their forever
home. From transport volunteers and foster care, to vet visits, assessments,
vaccinations and surgery - every step matters.
This is the reality of rescue.

In total, six volunteers helped transport Stanley into foster - giving up their own time, fuel, and energy simply to help him get to safety.

Once in foster care, Stanley began settling into a completely different life. He
received vaccinations, veterinary checks, and a full assessment to help the rescue
understand exactly what kind of home he would need.

A foster welcome box was
also sent to help him settle comfortably.
But it quickly became clear that Stanley needed more than just routine care.
Stanley required BOAS surgery - an operation commonly needed in brachycephalic breeds like Boston Terriers to help improve breathing and quality of life.

It was decided that he was to be castrated at the same time, and this surgery alone cost £1,500 (this was at a discounted rate). He also received post-operative checks and ongoing veterinary support.

By the end of his rescue journey, Stanley’s care had cost a total of £2,067.47.
And that figure only includes direct costs.
It doesn’t include the countless volunteer hours spent making phone calls, organising transport, carrying out home checks, completing paperwork, attending vet appointments, fundraising, comforting him in foster care, or supporting his eventual adopters.

It also doesn’t include the love, patience, sleepless nights, food, treats, training, or
emotional support given by his foster home.
Those parts are priceless.
Over 50 days, Stanley went from uncertainty to safety, recovery, and finally finding a forever home of his own.
Stories like Stanley’s are why fundraising, donations, foster homes, adopters, and
volunteers are so important to rescue organisations like UK Boston Terrier Rescue.
Every share, every donation, every event, every transport run, and every supporter
genuinely changes dogs’ lives.

Stanley may just be one dog, but his journey represents the reality for so many
others that come through rescue every year.

And every single one is worth it.
