Beau

SENIOR CITIZEN ON PAPER, FERAL TODDLER IN PRACTICE
Beau is a gorgeous Boston girlie who is "over 8". We say "over 8" because it sounds more dignified than "8 and has absolutely no intention of acting like it".
Beau would like to make one thing clear: she is not a senior dog. She is a vintage dog. Like a fine wine, if the wine was obsessed with balls and would eat your sandwich .
Her CV
Hobbies: Ball.
Interests: Ball.
Five-year plan: Ball.
Special skills: Ball. Also bum wiggling at an Olympic standard.
On food:
Beau's dietary requirements are: yes.
On being left home alone:
Beau's crate has been retired from active service, having been bitten, pushed and bent. Yes, bent. Metal. By a Boston Terrier. We're as surprised as you are. She's doing much better being left in a room on her own, where she relaxes, naps, and keeps the neighbourhood under surveillance from the window. She'll need a home that can build up alone time gradually, and not leave her for long stretches. She's not being dramatic. Well, she is, but she means it.
On plush toys:
Don't. Just don't. Save your money. A plush toy in Beau's house has the life expectancy of a mayfly.
On birds, cats and small furry things:
On other dogs:
Beau can be a bit of a drama queen with other dogs at first.
On the lead, she sometimes puffs herself up and tries to be Top Dog, despite being roughly the size of a loaf of bread. Her foster mum reckons it's nerves rather than nastiness, and it's something that can be worked on. The first week with her foster sister was... frosty. Now? They nap together, play together, and Beau looks for her on walks. Turns out she just needed to decide you were worth her time.
On children:
Beau was a bit shy with young visitors at first, then very happy with them. She'd suit sensible, respectful kids aged 5+ who understand that when a Boston walks away, the meeting is over.
The boring-but-important bits:
Housetrained
Spayed
Vaccinated
Walks nicely on lead (unless a pigeon is involved)
Comes back when called
Knows sit and her own name, and pretends not to know "drop the ball"
Loves a brush
Brilliant at the vets
Travels in her own car seat like minor royalty
In summary:
Beau has spent the last few years living a quiet, sensible life with an older owner. She has since discovered walks, games and balls, and has decided the quiet, sensible life was a waste of her talents.
She's loving, clever, funny, a bit cheeky, and will follow you from room to room like a small, wiggly shadow. She's snuggly, but not the type to sit on your lap for six hours. She respects your personal space. Your food, however, is fair game.
Do you have a secure garden, a calm household, a strong throwing arm and no attachment to your soft furnishings? Beau would like a word.
